REI engaged Kidder Mathews to help them increase their retail stores’ visibility and exposure in Washington. In the past, destination store locations had been successful for REI, but the national retail cooperative decided to explore traditional retail locations with greater visibility. REI worked with Kidder Mathews for 15 years in their search for new or improved locations for their Washington stores.

REI relocated their east Bellevue store to Redmond, where they purchased the land and built a flagship store at Redmond Town Center. They also worked with Kidder Mathews in negotiating a lease for a new location next to Nordstrom in Lynnwood at the Alderwood Mall. Simultaneously, they listed and sold their former store in Lynnwood.
REI targeted Tacoma and Southcenter as new markets, and with Kidder Mathews’ help, they opened high profile stores near the regional malls. As a result, the Federal Way store, between these two markets, was closed.
Most recently, REI leased a location in Issaquah and opened a two-story store in Olympia at the Westfield Shopping Center; a new target-market for the company.
In addition, Kidder Mathews helped them open smaller store locations in Bellingham and Kennewick, which have both proven to be extremely successful.
