Kidder Mathews, the largest independent commercial real estate firm on the West Coast, has welcomed Cliff Johnston to its Phoenix office as senior vice president, where he will focus on retail properties. He brings more than three decades of experience and market knowledge to the firm.

“We are very excited that Cliff has joined the Kidder Mathews team,” says Eric Paulsen, regional president of brokerage for the firm’s Southern California and Southwest offices. “We are building one of the strongest retail teams in Arizona, and Cliff’s 36 years of retail leasing experience, combined with leadership roles at his prior companies, will be an excellent addition.”

In the last year alone, Kidder Mathews has nearly doubled its retail team in Arizona as part of an aggressive growth strategy.

Johnston comes to Kidder Mathews from Cushman & Wakefield, where he served as managing director for 11 years. Prior to that, he spent 25 years specializing in the sale and agency leasing of all retail property types.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to Kidder Mathews’ expanding presence in the Phoenix market,” says Johnston. “The fact that the firm is independently owned and plans to stay that way is unique in the industry and part of what I see as its overall success.”

Over his career, Johnston has represented property owners in nearly 8 million square feet of transactions for clients including US Bank, Citibank, Pacific Mutual, Invesco, RREEF Funds, and ING Real Estate.
