Darren Tappen

Darren Tappen is Regional President of Brokerage for Kidder Mathews in Greater Los Angeles, Southern California, and Arizona.

With more than 24 years of industry experience, he oversees strategic business development, client relationships, and talent recruitment across these markets. Darren is known for his strategic vision and commitment to fostering high-performing teams and lasting client relationships.

A recognized expert in commercial investment properties throughout Arizona and the Western U.S., Darren is trusted by major banks, private equity funds, insurance companies, institutional investors, and developers for his in-depth knowledge and expert advice. He has specialized in REO dispositions, foreclosures, and CMBS re-stabilization/disposition, and is known for his service-first approach and expertise. Darren has leveraged Kidder Mathews’ platform to provide exceptional service across all commercial property types and regularly collaborates with market experts throughout California and other regions where the firm operates. He also helped build one of the firm’s top-producing investment sales teams alongside Peter Beauchamp, Nathan Thinnes, and Patrick Gardner, with more than $2.1 billion in closed transactions.

Darren joined Kidder Mathews in 2015 and was instrumental in helping open the Phoenix office, which launched with eight brokers and one staff member. Today, the office has grown to 46 brokers, six valuation appraisers, two senior property managers, and 15 support staff. Darren served as Managing Director from 2019 to 2021 and has been a member of the firm’s board of directors since 2020, currently serving a three-year term through December 2025

During his tenure at Kidder Mathews, Darren has not only been celebrated for his top-tier production—earning him a Big Hitters award—but also for his impact across the firm. He is a five-time recipient of the MVP Award—given by the Asset Services and Valuation Advisory divisions to brokers who drive cross-division success through referrals, joint business, and internal collaboration. He has also received the prestigious JEM Award of Excellence, honoring individuals who go above and beyond to exemplify Kidder Mathews’ core values.

Earlier in his career, Darren was a broker with Cushman & Wakefield, specializing in the acquisition and disposition of industrial, office, and retail properties, as well as land development. His diverse background, from brokerage to financial leadership, has provided him with a unique perspective that he leverages to lead Kidder Mathews and support its growth.
