Richard McDowell joined Kidder Mathews as director of engineering in 2020 and leads, coordinates, and manages all aspects of Kidder Mathews’ building engineering program. Richard has direct responsibility for day-to-day management of the engineering program, including hiring, developing, directing, and motivating technical personnel, oversight of the building engineering safety and training program, providing technical resources, and identifying and developing new business opportunities in the engineering and facilities management business line. Richard also coordinates and facilitates Kidder Mathews’ sustainability practice.

Prior to joining Kidder Mathews, Richard was a vice president for Performance Mechanical Group where he was tasked with leading and managing the company’s service groups for HVAC and Refrigeration. Richard was also a vice president at PSF Mechanical where he led the service group staff of over 50 employees. Prior to Richard’s tenure with PSF Mechanical and Performance Mechanical Group, Richard was a chief engineer with CBRE supporting a portfolio of over 2 million square feet, including hiring building engineers and developing and managing maintenance and operating procedures for several properties.

Richard’s deep experience includes overseeing and managing building engineering as a business unit, successful staffing and recruiting of building engineers and team members, and has a proven record of growing project revenues. Richard was an aircraft mechanic in the United States Navy Department, Active Duty from 1992 – 1993 and in the Reserves from 1999 – 1996.


Richard holds his Certificate of Completion in Commercial Building Engineering from Renton Technical College and has had training from the Brudvick School of Refrigeration. Richard has also been trained in UPS (MGE); Rotary Chiller (Trane); BacTALK Building DDC Controls (Alerton), BSL-3 Operations and Safety (UW), and Service Manager, Service Supervisor, Fierce Conversations and Customer Retention Training (MSCA).
