The American mall has been going through death throes in recent years as e-commerce has come to the fore, and the pandemic would appear to be the final nail in its coffin.

But for all the talk of malls dying out like the dinosaurs, large shopping centers on the Peninsula have remained stubbornly alive. In fact, Serramonte Center and Westlake Shopping Center in Daly City and Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo have undergone significant makeovers in recent years to stay relevant to consumers.
