Compton Lumber leaving Seattle; old home on First to be redeveloped

Fourth-generation family business Compton Lumber sold last year to a Louisiana buyer. Its home for the last 33 years, at 3847 First Ave. S., is slated for demolition. The business will move to Renton.

Avenue 55 is planning a new four-story industrial building on the site, which is in the Duwamish area just south of the West Seattle Bridge, and east of state Route 99 and the BNSF Railway tracks.
