San Diego, Calif (January 13, 2015) – Commercial real estate brokerage firm, Kidder Mathews, announced it has opened an office in San Diego and has hired three senior brokers and a managing partner, all with extensive careers and experience in the San Diego marketplace. The new office is located at 12626 High Bluff Drive, in the Del Mar Heights area.

Kidder Mathews is one of the largest independently owned commercial real estate firms on the West Coast, with over 450 real estate professionals and staff in 10 offices in Washington, Oregon, and California. The firm recently announced a strategic long-term growth plan that included opening offices in San Diego and the East Bay in 2015, and then in partnership with its existing offices in San Francisco, Redwood Shores and Silicon Valley, expand the company’s presence in both the Northern and Southern California markets.

“We see a tremendous opportunity to expand our commercial brokerage footprint in California, and these individuals represent just the type of quality, seasoned professionals and respected business and industry leaders that will help us be successful,” said Jeff Lyon, CEO of Kidder Mathews. “In addition to being a vibrant growing market, San Diego is a natural fit for us since Kidder Mathews currently manages 800,000 square feet of biotech space in La Jolla.”

The new hires include:
Mark Read, a veteran with more than 30 years in the commercial real estate industry, who will serve as the managing partner for the San Diego office. Read was formerly a broker and then senior managing director for CBRE, where he managed more than 220 employees and 100 sales professionals across multiple service lines. Most recently, Read, was an executive managing director for Voit Real Estate Services, where he was responsible for the company’s Orange County, Inland Empire and Los Angeles offices.

Ron King joins Kidder Mathews as a senior vice president. He is a twenty-nine-year professional and a former senior director with Cushman & Wakefield. King specializes in San Diego’s North County in the areas of industrial and R&D sales and leasing, as well as land sales. King is a member of the prestigious Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) since 1998, and the recipient of several national awards from SIOR for sales and leasing.

Ron has represented such clients as The Rockefeller Group, Hamann Companies, Stirling Development, MetLife, J.P. Morgan, SARES-Regis, Bixby, and SR Commercial. He has worked on major projects including Ocean Ranch Corporate Centre, Seagate Corporate Center and North County Corporate Center. He is involved with NAIOP and is a past president of the San Diego SIOR Chapter.

Joe McDermott joins Kidder Mathews as a senior vice president. McDermott has more than 25 years of experience and specializes in industrial properties. McDermott was formerly a director with Cushman & Wakefield. He works closely with business owners, investors, developers and financial institutions to help formulate and execute comprehensive real estate strategies.
Willingham has represented such clients as Hamann Properties, Burke Development, Rockefeller Group, SR Commercial and RYAN Companies. During the previous five years he has closed in excess of $150 million in sale and lease transactions. Willingham is a member of the prestigious Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR). He is involved with NAIOP and USNA Alumni Association.

Managing partner, Mark Read, says that he is excited about the opportunity to help grow Kidder Mathews in San Diego. “The firm’s emphasis on employee ownership aligns brokers’ interests with those of the company in a way that just doesn’t happen at other firms. They offer fantastic tools and resources without all the corporate layers of managers and cumbersome processes that some other firms have. Ron King, Joe McDermott, and Bob Willingham are top tier brokers who are well respected in the industry, and we have significant interest from other established producers. We expect to grow quickly here, and it’s going to be fun,” said Read.

While other commercial brokerages have recently been swept up in a wave of nationwide consolidation, Kidder Mathews is in a position to capitalize on these events by offering its unique platform to the commercial real estate industry.

Kidder’s platform-which is built on a streamlined and efficient management structure, commission splits that are at least 20 percent more favorable to its brokers and the opportunity for every employee to become a shareholder-has consistently attracted the top professionals in the commercial real estate industry.
