Joe Scuncio, a senior vice president in Kidder Mathews’ San Jose office, directs a program to collect warm clothing and blankets for the San Jose Family Shelter, which provides services for homeless families with children.
Joe began collecting warm coats, sweaters, and blankets 25 years ago in downtown San Jose. He delivered these items himself, from his 1970 VW bus, to people in need in local parks and streets. After a few years, he was receiving so many donations that delivery and storage was becoming a challenge so he began dropping off items at the San Jose Family Shelter.
Scuncio collects well over a thousand items each year as well as cash donations. He estimates that he has collected over 30,000 contributions over the years. He credits the patience and cooperation of his family, co-workers, and participants in the community for the success of the drive and helping people stay a bit warmer during the cold winter months.
The program runs November 19, 2012 through January 11, 2013. To participate, new or gently used jackets, sweater, blankets, and children’s books can be dropped off at Kidder Mathews, 10 Almaden Boulevard, Suite 550, San Jose, California 95113. Arrangements can be made for pick-up.
