SEATTLE, WA – Kidder Mathews Sustainability Practices provided Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consulting to help GLY Construction, one of the largest locally owned general contractors in the Puget Sound, achieve LEED Gold for Commercial Interiors certification by the US Green Building Council on its new office space in the 200 Building located in downtown Bellevue. The building is owned by Columbia Pacific Management and managed by Kidder Mathews.
The project uses an open floor plan to create an extremely light-filled environment, conductive to energy efficiency. The walls and spaces utilize products with primarily recycled content materials manufactured by Dirtt Environmental Solutions, a provider of environmentally sustainable custom modular interiors. Products were shipped from the factory and assembled on-site. Ceilings were left exposed to minimize the need for resource-intensive ceiling tiles, and much of the concrete floor was also left exposed. Low-flow water fixtures were used throughout the project resulting in a 54% reduction in water usage. Upgrades were made to the new HVAC components resulting in an extremely energy efficient office space. Due to the open floor plan and focus on indoor air quality, a construction indoor air quality plan was executed during the build-out, low-emitting paints and furniture were used, and green cleaning procedures were implemented throughout the building. GLY has committed to surveying their employees to ensure air quality is maintained.
GLY made a commitment to purchase green power for its utility usage. They also created educational signage and an office tour program to help educate employees and visitors about the sustainable components throughout the space. The company’s dedication to creating a sustainable office space is reflective of the commitment the company has made to sustainability in all of its projects. GLY has worked on 22 completed LEED projects and has another four currently under construction.

About LEED
LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. For more information, go to www.usgbc.org/leed.
